In addition to the walk, there will be a large white band that will be signed by the thousands hoped to attend, after the event; this band, the largest white band in the UAE, will be wrapped around the CNN building in Dubai Media City, to publicly state the support for the campaign. This will then be sent to Hong Kong to show them that the people of the UAE want trade justice and want to see an end to poverty.
Location: Dubai Media City Main Entrance (Follow the boards)
So Why Walk if your not raising money? Think of it this way… If you have millions of people all over the world, out on the same day, demanding the same thing, the united voice is too strong for our world leaders and Trade Organizations to ignore. We did this at LIVE 8 with enormous success and we are now doing it again.
Simultaneously, on the 9th and 10th, in more then 71 countries, GCAP’s national branches will mass mobilize millions of its supporters as a show towards the leaders at the Hong Kong WTO meetings to take positive action towards making poverty an issue of the past.
The leaders at the World Trade Organisation Meetings have the ability to lift millions out of poverty. But only if YOU ask them to…
We are not asking for your money. All we are asking for is YOU! The campaign is not about raising money but about raising awareness. People need to know they can make a difference simply by being there and showing the world leaders they care! They will not be denied! Be there on Friday at 9.30am for ‘The Walk Against Poverty’. Bring your family and friends, children may even bring along their bicycle or skateboards, just be there. Every single person counts!
The symbol of the campaign is a simple White Band. Even a simple piece of cloth can act as a white band however there will be silicon MPH bands available at the venue.
GCAP has shown on previous occasions that it can mobilize large numbers of people, in solidarity for our call to end poverty, thus making it the largest anti-poverty campaign in the world. The time has now come for the people of the UAE to take part in this global initiative to relieve the suffering of those less fortunate than us.
