Make Poverty History-Emirates reaps success at Web Awards

15th May 2006: The MakePovertyHistory-Emirates Campaign, the national branch of GCAP, officially launched its website, www.makepovertyhistory.ae, in December 2005. The website was developed in partnership with FlipMedia; a Dubai Media City based company, aiming to make poverty a thing of the past by raising awareness and increasing accessibility of information. Since then, the campaign’s website has been recognized to be creative, innovative and highly functional by both the UAE Web Awards 2005 as well as the Pan Arab Web Awards 2006 with its reception of both Silver and Gold Awards respectively, in the Non-Governmental Organization category.

The UAE Web Awards and the Pan Arab Web Awards, created to encourage innovation and creativity as well as promote a commitment to the maintenance of a safe and legal digital world. Judged through various criteria including creativity, ease of use, content, aesthetics and interactivity, the websites were awarded accordingly for their success in their category.

Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdam Bin Rashid Al Maktom, the UAE Web Awards took place on the 16th March 2006 at the Al Murooj Rotana Hotel, Dubai. Organized by the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and the UAE Web Awards Committee, the event brought excitement to web designers, anticipating the reception of their award. The campaign’s website was recognized, receiving the esteemed Silver Award in the Non-Governmental Organization category.

Following the resounding success at the first UAE Web Awards, the campaign was qualified to enter the Pan Arab Web Awards 2006 held under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah Bin Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the Grand-Hyatt Hotel Amman, April 2006. The event was jointly organized by the Dubai Internet City (DIC), Assembly of Processionals and Technicians in Lebanon (APTL), Eyes Horizons, Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) as well as the BSA, each of whom wish to promote the innovation of web designers in meeting professional and international standards. Recognized once again for its success the campaign’s website received the prestigious Gold Award in its category.

The awards were received by FlipMedia, on behalf of the campaign, and then passed on to campaign coordinator, Anish Kattukaran. FlipMedia has served as the campaigns IT partner since MakePovertyHistory-Emirates’ inception in the country. The company generously donated their services to the campaign in line with the company’s excellent social responsibility record.
