The White Band is the international symbol of GCAP off which MakePovertyHistory-Emirates is the UAE national branch.
In 2005 alone more then 40 Million people worldwide wore white-bands. On the 3 White Band Days, millions of supporters mobilised all over the world, wrapping buildings, bridges, telephone towers, castles, cathedrals and many other things with White Bands.
They didn’t wear them because they were cool or fashionable or made a great accessory. They wore them so that they could say to the world in one voice that they would not stand for extreme poverty. They wore them to say to the world, without saying a word, that they wanted more and better aid, debt cancellation, trade justice and public accountability. They wore it to say to the world that they demanded justice.
You might be a student, teacher, doctor or mother. You might wear it to the mosque, church, mall, school, work or a concert. Whenever and wherever you wear a white band you tell the world that YOU are a part of the biggest ever movement that is calling for the people of the world to mobilize and make poverty history.
White bands are a simple to make. You can be as creative as you like. You can make your own white-band. You can make some for your friends. You can wear them around your wrist or even around your car. You can bake one a cake or wrap one around a building. Whatever your idea you stand for the same thing.
